About the Elephant(象)
1.The elephant is a skin of the image wrapped around the immaterial(nothingness), generated as a toy/doll/puppet.
2.Elephant share the same meaning as Imagery in Chinese and man stand beside the elephant means Image. So what happens between Imagery to Image and the in between huamnbeing?
In English, “elephant” represents a definite temporal and spatial linear “phase,” while in Chinese, “象” (xiàng) refers to a form of non-temporal and spatial pictorial thinking. In the new era, how should we break through the limitations of time and space and rethink the generation of images from the formless to the form?
3.Within Core Aesthetics, the “Elephant-Image” operates as a semiotic pivot: it simultaneously evokes the material媒介ity of “象” in I Ching divination and metaphorizes the AI-generated cognitive fragmentation of “blind men and the elephant” in the digital age. As “Imagery” detaches from material reliance (e.g., the handicraft of Doll/Puppet) and morphs into algorithm-driven “Idoll” (heterogeneous idols), its ontology shifts from “tangible likeness” (有形之像) to “formless Xiangwang” (无形之象“罔”).
